This video shows the unique and thrilling experience of Ridge Soaring above the beautiful Southern Alps in Canterbury, New Zealand. Shot over several trips by experienced pilots Michael Oakley and Nicholas Oakley using Go Pro cameras.

It showcases New Zealand's stunning scenery from a perspective few people get to experience and gives a first hand glimpse of how glider pilots use the thermals around ridges to soar above the alps.

Colour Grading, before-after

Here is s ample from a recently finished promo video for gliding in NZ. The screen on the left is the finished video, with the right hand side showing the RAW footage from the GoPro cameras. Some of the hand held shots have been stabilized for the finished video. Nearly all the GoPro cameras were recording in different settings, which proved a big challenge to match up in the final video.
A lot of the footage was captured in 4:3 format and had to be zoomed in 32% to fit the wide screen format which resulted in a lot of image degradation. It still helps to tell the story though. The dissolves and transitions are not copied onto the right hand screen as it would have taken days to complete the task. So we left that footage RAW to show what the original shot would have looked like without the dissolves.
This video took 2 weeks post-production time from start to finish, but were very happy with the result.
Enjoy
