Day 2, tasks are "only" 488 and 537 kilometres
Day 2 July 5 2005
"A rest day" some of the pilots called it, as they "only" set a task from 488.2 km for 15 m class and 537.9 km for open class. We had great skies again and some of the pilots can't believe their eyes, which so many good looking clouds during this competition. Around at 16:30 however we felt some big drops of rain, but nothing more happened. The rain, just a shower, fell to the East of us and pilots were send to the East already first thing in the morning. So no problems! Another very well set task today! All pilots were back to enjoy dinner or drink a cool beer together, with of course the story from their day. It was not an easy one for some, I heard.
Because of this shorter task, there was a bigger difference in start times and clearly some tactic games were played. In 15 m class the difference was just over 1 hour and in open just under!
Two Finnish pilots from 15 m class, were the first to come back and also started first. They flew with a average speed of 130 km/h and that was promising. Steven Raimond from Holland won the 15 m. class with a speed of 135,8 km/h. We saw more great looking finishes and Peter Harvey from the UK was the winner in open class with 133,7 km/h. Both pilots are also the leaders in their class after 2 days.
You can imagine that pilots and their crews are enjoying their selves. Only happy faces here in Rayskala and the "high" is still around so more good news can be expected. We will keep you informed!
